T-shirts! New Art! Hyaena Horror Market!
11 months ago – Sun, Apr 13, 2025 at 06:27:41 PM

I came home from a day of telling the good people of Anaheim at AnaCon all about Doctor Zomba's Ghostly Tales, to find the t-shirt samples had arrived, and I couldn't be happier with them.

Thanks to 99 wonderful backers (99 backers of fear on the wall, 99 backers of fear...) we are 91% funded with just a little over a week left in the campaign.

Here's a new page reveal of The Sin Eater himself, by artist Henry Ponciano, that I humbly submit deserves to sit alongside the classic images of Quasimodo, and The Phantom of the Opera, as an iconic monster.

I'll be exhibiting and spreading the word about Ghostly Tales this Saturday at the FREE Hyaena Horror Market this coming Saturday in North Hollywood. Meanwhile...

Be sure to check out Womanhood: A Trilogy:Three short horror-comedy films centering on the three stages of womanhood called "maiden," "Mother," and "CRONE." The project is by comic book creator, fellow Hollywood Fringe Fest Producer and filmmaker Frank Forte. But hurry, it's fully funded, but it ends in just 5 hours!

New Art! AnaCon! Other Cool Kickstarters!
12 months ago – Mon, Apr 07, 2025 at 06:51:20 PM

Hot off the presses is this hauntingly beautiful sequence of panels by Anna Wieszczyk from the story Ghosted, which kicks off Doctor Zomba's Ghostly Tales!

I'll be promoting the Kickstarter at a FREE Comic Convention in Anaheim this Saturday: AnaCon! This is no small-fry, half a dozen table in the courtyard kind of free library con. I'll be appearing with more than 30 other creators. For more info, go here.

If you can't get enough of Anna Wiezczyk's art above, and I know I can't, how about an 80-page graphic novel of it? The Long Death is a dark fantasy mashup of Hansel & Gretel meets The Texas Chainsaw Massacre! Written by John Kratky, this fully funded Kickstarter is only live for another three days. One look at Anna's manga-influenced fever dream art style, and I jumped on board, and so should you!

As the writer of The Children's Vampire Hunting Brigade, you know I'm a sucker for a bloody good tale of the undead, but I'll be the first to admit, my vampires were never as sexy as the blood drenched blood suckers in Ruxy Vampire, as the blood flows freely in this gangster mashup set in 1926. If you can't get enough NSFW variant covers, this Kickstarter is for you. And don't worry that you're jumping in midstory in issue 2: Digital and physical copies of Issue 1 are available for you to get caught up. Fully funded and live on Kickstarter for ten more days!

No Spell Lasts Forever #1-4 by Sarah Cooke is a noir contemporary fantasy comic in which a magic-wielding criminal makes a Faustian deal with the devil for a second chance at life. This fully funded Kickstarter is live for 10 more days. In addition to the creative cover above there's a Cabaret movie poster pastiche, and more! Much like the previously mentioned Kickstarter you can get caught up with issues 1-3 if need be, and the series itself ends with issue 6.

New Reward Level & Add-On: Doctor Zomba's Roll the Bones Game!
12 months ago – Sat, Apr 05, 2025 at 12:47:24 AM

Now available as a Reward or an Add-on for just 10 bucks: Doctor Zomba's Roll the Bones Monster Dice Game is a simple but fiendishly clever game where you roll oversized dice featuring the images of Doctor Zomba, Sirena, Ear Gore, Dracula, a skull and a ghost—first one to roll 43 points or more wins. But doubles of anything will lose you points. Comes with two cardboard dice, to be cut out and assembled & two pages of amusing instructions. For example:

DOCTOR ZOMBA (3) + GHOST (6) = 9: Doctor Zomba decides to treat his ghostly workers to a night on the town, and finds much to his chagrin, it’s like herding cats. When half of his ghosts fail to come back, he just sends Ear Gore, Dracula, and Sirena out to make some more!

DOCTOR ZOMBA (3) + DOCTOR ZOMBA (3) = -6: Doctor Zomba spends so much time staring at himself in the mirror, getting ready for the show, he accidentally unleashes his own mirror image, who totally destroys his unsavory reputation by behaving like a Boy Scout at every turn!

It's not necessary to play this game by candlelight in a graveyard at midnight, but it is highly recommended!

Other Cool Kickstarters to Check Out:

Doctor Zomba may be dipping his toes in the NSFW realm with that E.C. pastiche cover, but the people behind CARMILLA UNBOUND: 1984 - Miami Bites were born into it! Already fully funded, but hurry: It's only live for five more days!

From Madeleine Holly-Rosing, the woman who brought you the steampunk classic Boston Metaphysical Society comes Morgana Pendragon #1. My dad had a PhD in medieval literature, and raised me with a love of the Arthurian Legends, so this is right up my alley!

The Borough is a comic book about superheroes in Pittsburgh, and as an ex-Pittsburgher myself, it's a concept that can't help but tickle my fancy!

Wondercon Recap! AnaCon ahead for Doctor Zomba's Ghostly Tales
12 months ago – Mon, Mar 31, 2025 at 10:22:04 PM

I had a blast seeing old friends and making new ones at Wondercon, preaching the good word to one and all about Doctor Zomba's Ghostly Tales. The panel I hosted Writing For Indie Comics, was well attended and well received. In fact, if you count the new backers we got during the con, this was our most successful Wondercon yet!

Thanks to 82 wonderful backers we are now 72% funded and counting. Fanbase Press was kind enough to give us a shoutout on Crowdfunding Fridays. This Thursday, I'll be on The Event Horizon, talking all things Zomba on Sci-fi Radio. In two weeks I'll be doing AnaCon Saturday, August 12th, at the Anaheim Library.

If you know a podcast, live stream, Substack, etc. you think I should reach out to, please let me know. Thanks!

Chatting with John's Long Box!
12 months ago – Wed, Mar 26, 2025 at 10:09:11 PM

That's me on the right. That big smile on my face is because thanks to 73 of you wonderful backers we are now 61 % funded in the first week! For my part, to celebrate, I did a live stream with John on John's Long Box talking in depth about life, comics and all things Doctor Zomba's Ghostly Tales. You can watch it here:

Tomorrow, I pack up and head down to Anaheim to get set up for Wondercon!

If you're looking for another cool comics Kickstarter to check out, might I suggest Grimm Space, a sci-fi Cinderella/female Sherlock Holmes mystery mashup by Frank Martin that looks like a lot of fun. Check it out here.
